Doula Services

Mama and baby resting after birth

Birth

I offer continuous support through pregnancy, labor, and birth.  Beginning with our initial interview, we ideally meet at least 2 more times before your due date to build a relationship, explore birth preferences, discuss comfort measures, and learn how I may best serve you.

During our meetings, I present information relevant to your place of birth (home, hospital, or birth center) to allow you to make informed decisions before, during, and after birth. I am consistently available to you by phone and e-mail, and on-call 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after your due date (between 38-42 weeks). I am with you through labor and birth, and will visit you at home within the first week postpartum.  In labor, I offer acupressure, massage, aromatherapy, suggest positions for comfort, and help keep you (and your partner) hydrated and nourished.  I encourage and support the involvement of fathers and partners, making sure that they too receive what they need along the way.

Postpartum

Postpartum care begins within the 1st week after birth and is shaped around your family's needs.  As a postpartum doula, I provide nurturing, compassionate, and non-judgmental support with the intention of bringing your family a sense of comfort and ease.  It is also my intention to aid in your recovery from birth and to give you and your partner time to bond with your newborn. I may attend to light housework, prepare simple meals with your constitutional needs in mind, do baby laundry, and possibly run an errand.  At other times, I will be with baby between a feeding so that you may rest or take a shower.  I educate about the immediate postpartum period, baby care which includes soothing, cord care, and bathing, and give basic breastfeeding and/or bottle feeding guidance or referrals to outside resources when necessary
